OMIP Liberty at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta Holds Its 9th Library Service Event to Promote Literacy Among Schoolchildren
On March 2, 2024, OMIP Liberty, a student organization of Library Science at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, carried out the Bakti Pustaka Program. This program has entered its 9th year of implementation and aims to improve literacy among elementary school students. The program, which was held at MIS Ma'arif Saman, Yogyakarta, carried the theme "Building Literacy for Acceleration" as an answer to the need for adaptation in the digital era.
The implementation of the 9th Bakti Pustaka is divided into several series of events. Starting with the processing of library materials from February 02 to 25, 2024. The highlight event is the Literacy Festival on March 2, 2024. This festival invites local MI and kindergarten students to participate in various competitions, such as the Smart Competition (LCC), storytelling, and coloring. In addition, training for librarians will be held at MIS Ma'arif Saman on March 9, 2024.
The purpose of the 9th Bakti Pustaka is very noble. They aim to increase awareness of the importance of information, expand the benefits of reading, foster a mindset about the importance of digital libraries, and share the science of good and correct library management. These activities are expected to encourage educational progress, empower the community, stimulate innovation, prepare students for future jobs, and create a foundation for creativity.
Muhammad Virgiawan Listanto, Chairman of the 9th Bakti Pustaka Committee, conveyed his opinions and messages about the implementation of this program. He stated, "I am proud to be able to oversee this program from the initial activities to the successful peak event yesterday. He also expressed his hope that the 9th Bakti Pustaka event could add insight and benefit the wider community.
The 9th Bakti Pustaka is a forum to improve literacy and promote inclusive education, which shows OMIP Liberty's commitment to applying library science to have a positive impact on society.
