Fostering Ambition and Preserving Traditions Through the IDKS 2023 Exhibition

On Thursday, May 25, 2023, the Library Science Study Program of the State Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta again held an IDKS cultural exhibition which took place on the 1st floor of the Library Building of the State Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. This cultural exhibition is an annual activity carried out by UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library Science students who take the Information in Social Context (IDKS) course. This exhibition is part of the final semester exam, but in its implementation, this exhibition is a form of information repackaging and knowledge management.

This exhibition featured various performing arts such as Gejog Lesung (traditional arts from Yogyakarta), Kuntulan Dance (traditional arts from Sendangagung, Minggir, Sleman), Srandul (art from DI Yogyakarta), Dadung Awuk (art from Kasihan, Bantul), Reog Wireng (traditional arts from Solo), Bedouin Dance (religious arts from Sleman), Sisingaan (traditional arts from Subang, West Java), Lawet Dance (traditional dance from Kebumen), Rampak Gedruk Buto (traditional dance from Magelang), Kubro Siswo (traditional dance from Magelang), Nirbaya Dance (traditional dance from Yogyakarta), and Sintren Dance (traditional dance from Cirebon, West Java).

According to Dra. Labibah, MLIS as a lecturer in the Information in Social Context course as well as the head of the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta Library, said that "I want to build awareness to the younger generation that the tradition must be maintained and must be maintained, because the value of local knowledge is very important to be inherited from generation to generation. If they are not involved in this exhibition, maybe they don't know that there are Sintren, Reog Wireng, Lawet Dance, and others, maybe they only know their names but don't know the philosophy in them" In line with this, M. Irsyad Al Barru as the chairman of the IDKS 2023 Cultural Exhibition committee said that the theme of this cultural exhibition is the tradition of "revitalizing the aesthetics of the exiled performing arts", With the tagline "Build Ambition, Nurture Tradition". "Because why should we nurture, because it must be maintained, because maintaining it is important for a healthy environment to grow something healthy". According to him, the IDKS exhibitors this time had a very good effort, even better than the previous IDKS exhibition, from making unique and creative stands according to the theme of the exhibition to interesting supporting ornaments. Not only that, he also conveyed a message for the next IDKS exhibition to prepare things better, maintain communication, and give something that is interesting and makes visitors interested in learning something that we exhibit.

Based on the interviews with the two sources mentioned above, it is hoped that in the future, the results of the IDKS exhibition can be compiled into a separate book so that it can be read anytime and anywhere. It may also inspire others to organize similar events.
