ALUS New Member Induction Reaches Its Climax at Sikrab 2023

Marking the end of the 2023/2024 ALUS new member recruitment period, which began last August, the “Sikrab” (afternoon get-together) was successfully held at Goa Cemara Beach in Bantul. The event was attended by 76 ALUS members and carried the theme “Embrace Friends, Unite Our Spirits, and Nurture Young ALUS Members of Character.”

The event began with a departure from the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta campus to the beach location, followed by opening remarks. This was followed by a presentation on organizational matters delivered by Dr. Mukhlis, S.IP., M.IP., the outgoing ALUS chairperson, followed by the induction of new ALUS members and division-specific focus group discussions (FGDs). After that, there was a break for prayer and lunch, and the event concluded with competitive games such as a rubber band relay, a chopstick-to-bottle race, and a balloon-popping contest to foster camaraderie among members.

Sikrab is an annual event organized by ALUS, and its format varies each year. This year’s Sikrab was held on the beach, offering the serene ambiance of the ocean—a contrast to last year’s event in Turi, Sleman, with its cool mountain air. However, the most significant difference lies in the effort to give deeper meaning to Sikrab itself; the camaraderie forged last year has grown stronger over time, becoming even more harmonious this year.

This year’s Sikrab concluded with a group photo session to capture memories of the precious moments that were created. With the success of Sikrab 2023, it is hoped that ALUS can continue to grow and thrive as a close-knit, youthful family.
