Library Science Student Becomes Panelist at IFLA Student Panel Event

24 April 2025 – Salwa Merta, a student of the Library Science Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, served as a panelist at the Student Panel Event organized by the LIS Education in Developing Countries Special Interest Group (LISDEV SIG) of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). The event was held online on 24 April 2025 and brought together Library and Information Science students from various countries as panelists, along with LIS experts as discussants.

In addition to Salwa, other panelists included Sandun Weerasinghe, a Master’s student in Library and Information Science from the National Institute of Library and Information Sciences (NILIS), University of Colombo, Sri Lanka; Manoj Kumar, a PhD candidate in Library and Information Science from Kumaun University, Nainital, India; and Margaret Nakato, a PhD candidate in Library and Information Science from the University of South Africa.

Library Science lecturer at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Dr. Labibah Zain, MLIS, also took part in the event as one of the discussants. She shared the role with Dr. Eliz State from Africa and Dr. Anita Dewi from Australia, who each provided responses, reflections, and feedback on the ideas presented by the student panelists.

The participation of the academic community of the Library Science Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga in this IFLA event is expected to enhance the university’s visibility on the global stage. It is also hoped that this achievement will motivate other students to showcase their abilities and accomplishments in international forums.
