The Importance of Branding in the Digital Era: Library Science Program Holds Public Relations Workshop
Yogyakarta, 29 January 2026 — The Library Science Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga held a workshop for its Public Relations Team as a strategic step to strengthen the program’s branding on social media. Given the rapid growth of digital media, every institution, including academic units, is encouraged to use these platforms to project a positive image that can build good impressions and attract public interest.
The Public Relations (PR) Team of the Library Science Study Program is responsible for managing the program’s official social media accounts and website, both for publicizing activities and producing content that supports digital branding. The team consists of 19 students divided into three divisions—website, social media, and design—under the coordination of Library Science lecturer Muhammad Bagus Febriyanto, M.Hum., as the team leader. For this reason, the workshop was designed to enhance the team’s competencies in managing digital media for program branding.
Opening session and PR team inauguration
The workshop took place in the Teatrikal Room of the Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences and was attended by the Vice Dean III of the Faculty, the Head of the Library Science Study Program, as well as several lecturers and students who are members of the PR Team. The event began at 08.00 a.m. with an opening by the master of ceremony, Aulia Rahma Khasna, followed by the singing of the national anthem Indonesia Raya and the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Hymn.
Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences, Dr. Syamsul Arifin, S.Ag., M.Ag., delivered a welcoming address in which he emphasized that branding through social media is an important responsibility for every study program. He expressed his appreciation to the Library Science Study Program for pioneering branding efforts through the establishment of a dedicated PR Team. The event then continued with the official inauguration of the 2026 PR Team by the Head of the Library Science Study Program, M. Ainul Yaqin, S.Pd., M.Ed.
Session one: Branding for Library Science students
The first presentation was delivered by Dr. Labibah, M.LIS., a lecturer in Library Science. She highlighted the urgency of branding for Library Science students and explained how to build a strong personal and institutional image through digital media. According to her, Library Science students need to utilize digital platforms to construct a positive image so that they are recognized as competent professionals.
“People visit Library Science social media accounts because they want to know how career paths are being developed,” she remarked, underlining that social media can function as a window that showcases the quality, achievements, and professional prospects of the program’s students and graduates.
Session two: Content, teamwork, and engaging websites
The second session featured Maylisa Oktavira, M.Pd.I., a lecturer in Arabic Language and Literature who manages various social media platforms, including Instagram accounts @publikalab and @admisi.uinsk. She spoke about the importance of building strong team bonding to ensure that tasks can be carried out effectively, how to create engaging content for social media, and how to design clear timelines and job descriptions for the PR Team.
This session also included Library Science lecturer Thoriq Tri Prabowo, M.IP., Ph.D., as a co-speaker. He emphasized that the program’s website should present essential content with compelling titles and presentation styles so that audiences are interested in reading it. The second session was moderated by Library Science lecturer Lilih Deva Martias, M.Sc.
Questions on consistency and engagement
Members of the PR Team actively took part in the discussion sessions. One student, Atha, asked how to maintain motivation in order to consistently produce content. In response, Dr. Labibah suggested creating a “content bank”. “When you are in a good mood, you can generate up to ten content ideas. Later, when your motivation is lower, you can simply post them,” she advised.
She also responded to a question from another student, Nabilah, regarding how to increase audience engagement. According to her, entertainment-oriented content often attracts higher engagement because it feels lighter and more relatable for followers.
Division discussions and future plans
The workshop concluded with internal discussions within each division, led by their respective division heads. These discussions aimed to clarify job descriptions for new members and to outline work plans for the upcoming period.
The Library Science Study Program hopes that this workshop will significantly improve the PR Team’s capacity to build strong digital branding. In an era where digital media is inseparable from people’s daily lives, a positive image presented through online platforms can leave a lasting impression and earn public trust.
