Jogja Reading Sowing the Seeds of Indonesian Literacy
On February 11 and 17, 2024, ALUS (Library Science Student Association) held the Jogja Reading Volume 13 Event. The event was chaired by Ahadina Frida Aliza who is also a Library Science Student. This event was held in two parts, namely the procurement of reading stalls on Sunday 11/2 while on Saturday 17/2 a literacy and readloud workshop was held at the Ngudi Kawruh Reading House.
At the Sunday 11/2 Reading Stall, it was held in four different areas, namely Sultan Agung Stadium Bantul, AdiTV, Wates Square, and Denggung Square, from 07.00 to 11.00 WIB. This event aims to invite children and parents who are on vacation to know the importance of literacy.
In collaboration with the Ngudi Kawruh Reading House, reading resources are sufficient and varied. In addition, there is a magazine donation from Angular Alfa which contains stories, ideas, and perspectives of several writers aimed at parents or adolescents to understand and understand the conditions and benefits of literacy.
At the peak of the Jogja Reading Volume 13 event, a literacy and readaloud workshop was held at the Ngudi Kawruh Reading House, Saturday 17/2. With the enthusiasm and enthusiasm of the Ngudi Kawruh Community, this workshop and readloud event was a success.
Several talented children from Ngudi Kawruh also participated in enlivening this event by telling stories in front of other children, as well as performing art performances such as the Red Angguk Dance, the performance of the song "Andaikan Aku Punya Sayap", and the chanting of hadroh by the Hadroh Ngudi Kawruh Team.
This literacy workshop was moderated by Ade Deah Pratiwi and filled by Farida Lisna Priscasari, she is a member of the Read Aloud Jogja community. He said that growing children's literacy starts with parents. Parents can introduce books by reading picture story books to children as well as getting used to reading.
At the question and answer event, a housewife, expressed her concerns about whether there is an effect of children who prefer to see pictures or videos from gadgets, rather than hearing reading books with their parents.
He replied, reading together between parents and children has advantages, such as the interaction that occurs there will be a reciprocity between the two sides. Meanwhile, consuming information from images/videos only has one side of interaction and parents cannot control what their children consume in full.
The Jogja Reading Volume 13 event was carried out successfully. With the hope, "starting from the awareness of the small community slowly spreading throughout the country."
