The Student Association and Public Relations Office of the Library Science Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Hold a News Writing Workshop
Yogyakarta, May 4, 2024 – The Library Science Student Association (HMPS) at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University in Yogyakarta, in collaboration with the Library Science Program’s Public Relations Office, held a news writing workshop on Saturday, May 4, 2024, in the Theater Room of the Language Development Center.
The theme of this training is “Working Together to Develop Young Journalists to Create Informative Content.”
Ade Deah Pratiwi, the chair of the organizing committee, expressed concern over the proliferation of hoaxes that cause panic among the public and trap people in misinformation. Therefore, this training is expected to develop young journalists who can provide factual news.
Ibnu Pratama, a member of the Library Science Student Association (HMPSIP) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, expressed his gratitude for the successful holding of this event, which had been postponed, and praised the cooperation of HMPSIP members as well as the enthusiasm of the participants.
In his closing remarks before the training session began, the Head of the Library Science Program, Prof. Dr. Nurdin, stated that journalistic skills the fundamental ability to transform information into engaging written content that captures the interest of readers or audiences—are essential for students to acquire as a foundation for their future careers after graduation.
The event was attended by students and faculty members from UIN Sunan Kalijaga. The guest speaker for this training session was Hammam 'Izzudin, a reporter for mojok.co.
Hammam ‘Izzuddin, a speaker at this journalism training session, not only discussed news writing techniques and tips, but also provided an understanding of news structure, types of reporting, the essentials needed for reporting, how to gather accurate data and facts, and the various types of interviews that can be used to obtain information.
Participants also had the opportunity to put their skills into practice by writing short news articles and receiving immediate feedback from the speakers. The training utilized lectures, discussions, and hands-on exercises.
