UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library Collaborates with the Pakistan Library Club Through the International Sharing Season
The UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library held an International Sharing Season titled “The Crucial Role of Artificial Intelligence in Libraries in Advancing Education for Sustainable Development” as part of a collaboration with the Pakistan Library Club. The event took place in the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library’s Theater Room on Monday, November 21, 2023.
Dr. Labibah, MLIS, Head of the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library, delivered the opening remarks at this event. The UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library invited Mr. Arshad Mahmood (Director of the Pakistan Library Club) as a guest speaker for this International Sharing Season event.
Two librarians from UIN Sunan Kalijaga were appointed as moderators and emcees for the event: Isrowiyanti, S.Ag., SS., M.A., and Asri Yuna Chasanawati, S.IP. The event was open to the public and attended by participants from both within and outside UIN Sunan Kalijaga.
In line with the theme, this event aimed to address the challenges libraries face in adapting to the development of Industry 5.0. Industry 5.0 represents a collaboration between Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotic technology, innovation, and human skills. AI technology is frequently used by students to solve problems and streamline their work.
Mr. Arshad explained one of the AI technologies that can be used in libraries: ChatGPT. He discussed the history and functions of ChatGPT in libraries. ChatGPT can be used to assist librarians in improving services for library users, such as virtual reference services and interactive tutorials. However, Mr. Arshad emphasized that we must remain mindful of security when using AI and must cultivate critical thinking skills so as not to be easily deceived.
This event left a positive impression and provided benefits for the participants, particularly for students in the library science program. At the end of the event, a group photo session was held for documentation purposes.
