On Thursday, March 21, 2024, the Library Science Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga held an in-person Curriculum Review Workshop at the De Laxston Hotel in Yogyakarta.
The event, which took place from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. WIB, was combined with an iftar meal with the faculty members participating in the workshop. This workshop was quite special because, in addition to being attended by all faculty members of the Library Science Program, it also featured Mr. Putu Laxman Pendit, Ph.D., as a guest speaker.
The Head of the Library Science Study Program at the Faculty of Literature and Cultural Studies, Prof. Dr. Nurdin, S.Ag., S.S., M.A., expressed his enthusiasm during his opening remarks, noting that this curriculum review was attended in person by Mr. Putu Laxman Pendit, Ph. D., in person to discuss the curriculum that will serve as a guideline for teaching and learning activities in the Library Science Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, in line with current developments. Additionally, the discussion will address plans for student exchange programs with universities abroad.
The discussion was moderated by Ms. Arina Faila Saufa, M.A., who also expressed her joy and enthusiasm regarding the guest speaker’s presence, given his undeniable influence in the field of library science. A key topic in this workshop discussion was the fundamental nature of library science itself—whether it falls under the realm of technology or the social sciences.
In addition to the faculty members, the discussion was also attended by student representatives from the Library Science program, specifically from the Library Science Student Organization: Librarian Education-Relationship-Community (OMIP), the Library Science Student Association (ALUS), and the 2024 Library Science Study Program Student Association (HMPS IP). They voiced their concerns and asked questions as Library Science students and engaged in a joint discussion.
The discussion proceeded smoothly, covering a wide range of topics related to current library issues, one of the most important being the new nomenclature in the library field. It is hoped that this curriculum review workshop will further advance the field of Library Science education and provide significant benefits to its graduates.
